Joe Kovacs, representing Velassa and New York Athletic Club, placed second in the men's shot put final with a pair of marks at 75-0.50 (22.87m) at the Toyota USATF Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Kovacs, the reigning World Championships gold medalist from 2019 in Doha, has an automatic berth to compete July 15-24, allowing fourth-place competitor Adrian "Tripp" Piperi to also qualify to compete at Hayward Field again at the global competition.
